Growing since 1908
Welcome to Diacks Nurseries. Our story began over a century ago, and today, we are proud to be a sixth-generation family business dedicated to growing the best plants and providing expert horticultural advice for the unique Southland climate.
Our Deep Roots in Southland
The seed for Diacks Nurseries was first sown in 1908 when eight-year-old Colin Diack began growing and selling cabbages from a modest nursery on Biggar Street. Colin's commitment to quality—initially selling his harvest by horse and cart—laid the foundation for a business that has grown alongside the community.
In 1936, Colin purchased land on 628 Tweed Street, where one of our main shops stands today. Through generations, the Diack family has continuously invested in the best equipment and the finest local expertise, ensuring our plants are perfectly suited to thrive in the cool, wet conditions of Invercargill and Southland.
The Diack name and familiar faces behind the counter remain a testament to our enduring legacy.
Two Thriving Locations, One Commitment to Quality
Today, we operate two comprehensive retail outlets: our long-standing Tweed Street site and our modern Lorneville Garden Centre (849 North Road), strategically placed on the highway connecting Invercargill to Queenstown. Both locations boast extensive stock, including a dedicated wholesale nursery.
Our team of passionate horticulturists specialises in plants specifically proven for Southern New Zealand, including our famous range of Hardy Roses, NZ Native Plants, and a vast selection of fruit and nut trees. We offer:
- Expert Local Advice: Tailored recommendations for your garden project.
- Bulk Deliveries: Convenient delivery services for soil, compost, mulch, and plants across Southland.
- Free Trailer Hire: Use our trailer for up to three hours to take your supplies home.
